– Netflix (NASD: NFLX) on Wednesday
reported that it added a record 1.7 million new subscribers to its online DVD
rental service during the first quarter, ending the period with nearly 14
million subscribers.

The company also said that 55% of its subscribers used its
Instant Streaming service to stream a movie or TV episode to their computer or
television for at least 15 minutes during the quarter.

This figure is up from
36% who had used Instant Streaming in the same period last year, and 48% in the
previous quarter.

The company recently launched Instant Streaming to the
Nintendo Wii console, and already offers links to the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360,
and a range of other Internet-connected devices.
