Tokyo – Twitter, which
launched in Japan
in 2008, and released a mobile version in October 2009, drew more monthly
unique visitors that the country’s most popular online social network, mixi, in
April, the Associated Press reported, citing Nielsen data. The service is now proportionally
more popular in Japan than
in the U.S.,
as 16.3% of Japanese Internet users Twitter compared with 9.8% of Americans. The
Japanese are responsible for some 8 million tweets daily, or 12% of the global
total.
