Beijing – China’s Sina has announced that it plans to increase investment in Weibo, its Twitter-like microblogging service, by $100 million comparing with 2010.

According to Charles Chao, Sina’s President and CEO, the company plans to double the number of employees in Weibo operations and add budget to product development and marketing.

Currently with over 140 million users, Sina’s goal is to bring the user number up to 200 million by the end of this year. Chao added that Sina values more on user engagement, time on site and interactiveness and wants to expand social media on the Weibo platform. According to him, Weibo users spend an average of one hour daily on site.
