Sixits Studios announced it is entering a partnership with Academy Award winner Doug Chiang and DC Studios, and that their first project will be a mobile game called Robota: Vengeance. Furthermore, the creative team is turning to Kickstarter for help with the game’s funding.

They intend to raise $100,000 by March 12, and they plan to create the game in a period of six months or less. Among other perks on offer, the partners have established an online community exclusively for the Kickstarter backers to see the project prior to release and discuss the game’s content and direction with Robota’s creator Chiang and the Sixits team.

Robota: Vengeance is a story derived from within the larger Robota universe in the illustrated book by Chiang and Orson Scott Card. Players build their own custom robot, then become that robot in the game, defeating giant enemy robots and genetically modified dinosaurs in gladiatorial combat while they strive to unlock the secrets of their own creation.

Videos of early Robota CGI tests and other materials are available online, to engage potential investors and to build anticipation among gamers, and the creators said they will continue to post video and other status updates.

The soundtrack to Robota: Vengeance will be by Rage Music and award-winning composer Paul Leonard-Morgan.

Chiang’s extensive credits include Death Becomes Her, Forrest Gump, Star Wars Episode 1 – The Phantom Menace and Star Wars Episode 2 – Attack of the Clones as well as cutting-edge animated movies like A Christmas Carol, Polar Express and Beowulf.

Sixits Studios was founded in 2009 by Euan Macdonald and Nathaniel Hunter, whose professional lives have intersected with Chiang’s multiple times over their careers in CGI, visual effects and digital effects for movies and games.

“I have been fortunate to work with Doug on numerous occasions, including on Star Wars Episode 1, and most recently on A Christmas Carol,” Macdonald said. “Robota: Vengeance is going to be a phenomenal cutting edge experience for mobile devices, that we are excited to bring to life with Doug. And, kickstart, literally, with the help of Kickstarter.com backers. Kickstarter is providing an excellent opportunity for independent developers to seek funding and also collaborate directly with backers to create the games and products they want to buy. ”
