User-generated video content is set to become an even larger part of professionally produced news following a recent development from digital and broadcast graphics specialist Chyron and Cell Journalist.

Chyron’s familiar CAMIO graphics asset management server is now integrated with the web-based Cell Journalist application, making it easy to incorporate video sent in by viewers, citizen journalists or field reporters. Producers can just locate and drag-and-drop the submitted content to use through their usual Associated Press ENPS interface.

Cell Journalist application is already in use by clients like Cox, Scripps, Raycom, Belo, Barrington, ABC and Fox for breaking news, weather and community event video content.

This new integration is particularly useful during breaking news and severe weather coverage, according to Jim Martinolich, vice president of integration technology at Chyron. “”In the past, an integration of this sophistication would have been costly both in terms of development time and money,” he said. “This is a simple solution with a huge benefit – namely, a more relevant and visually rich news product, without added workflow complexity.”
