Piranha 3DD is unlikely to attract a quietly reverent cinephile audience, so it seems like an appropriate choice for social online viewing. The horror comedy today becomes the first 3D movie to debut on Facebook, the same day it hits theaters and becomes available on-demand.

Starz Digital Media chose Milyoni for the Facebook streamcast of Piranha 3DD, which is produced and theatrically distributed by Dimension Films. Using Milyoni’s Social Cinema, viewers can watch along with their friends as they share comments, chat, and their tagged favorite clips.

For those who don’t have 3D glasses, Milyoni is providing a link with each movie purchase with instructions for making them at home. On Facebook, Piranha 3DD in 3D costs $7.99, with an HD streamcast available for a dollar less, payable PayPal, Facebook Credits or credit card.

Starz Media has also partnered with Maxim men’s magazine on a competition for Facebook viewers to win a trip to Las Vegas.

“This project with Starz Digital Media marks yet another first for us and social entertainment on Facebook,” said John Corpus, CEO of Milyoni. “The chance to bring the first 3D movie to the social network is another step towards the future of Facebook as a true entertainment consumption and distribution platform.”

Description from Dimension Films: Piranha 3DD is the R-rated sequel to Piranha 3D, originally released in 2010. After the terror unleashed on Lake Victoria in Piranha 3D, the pre-historic school of blood thirsty piranhas are back.  This time, no one is safe from the flesh eating fish as they sink their razor sharp teeth into the visitors of summer’s best attraction, The Big Wet Water Park.
Christopher Lloyd (Back To The Future) reprises his role as the eccentric piranha expert with survivor Paul Scheer (The League) is back for more fish frenzy.  David Hasselhoff trades in the sandy beaches of “Baywatch” to be a celebrity lifeguard at the racy water park. Prepare for double the terror, double the action and double the D’s in this sequel also starring Gary Busey (Lethal Weapon), Katrina Bowden (30 Rock),  Danielle Panabaker (The Crazies), Matt Bush (Adventureland), Chris Zylka (The Amazing Spider-Man) and David Koechner (Anchorman: The Legend Of Ron Burgundy).

  1. Well the poster that you can rent the movie on Facebook says ‘Available Everywhere June 1st’
Clearly that is false advertising as I am in Europe and can not rent the video because i’m not in America.
Why has no one picked up on that.

Also It keeps saying ‘Please input Captcha!’
when I am putting in the captcha.
    Not very Happy now.

    • Thanks for mentioning that the showing is not available in all countries, Sean. That’s certainly a relevant piece of information.

Also, I’ve let the tech team know that the captcha is acting up.
