Jay Z live from Brooklyn kicks off his YouTube channel

Nobody but Jay Z could launch a YouTube channel the way the superstar is launching his Life+Times channel tomorrow, mainly because there’s only one Jay Z. He’s flicking the switch on by webcasting a live stream of his Oct. 6 performance at Brooklyn, New York’s Barclay Center, the last of eight sold-out concerts in a row. (Watch the teaser video below for a taste of what’s in store.)

The cultural icon created the channel in partnership with IconicTV, based on his personal website Life and Times, so fans can expect to see the channel emulate the website’s range of music, art, sports and other of Jay Z’s interests.

Some programming is confirmed, however. Following Saturday’s concert, some of the shows will be: The Road to Brooklyn, a docu-drama series about the Nets and how the basketball team (in which Jay Z has a financial share) got from Newark to Brooklyn; Roc Nation CheckIn, video portraits of artists managed by Roc Nation (which Jay Z co-founded); Well Dunn with Jourdan Dunn, a series about the English supermodel previously named Model of the Year at the British Fashion Awards; and Blueprint, a documentary series delving into the craftsmanship of world-famous luxury brands.

“After a decade and a half of amazing musical success, Jay Z has emerged as the definitive cultural arbiter of his generation,” says Michael Hirschorn, co-founder and chief creative officer of IconicTV. “Whether it’s launching new artists through his Roc Nation management company, rebranding the Brooklyn Nets in a new arena that he is inaugurating, spending time with the President, playing Carnegie Hall in a tux, hosting the charity event of the year for kids, or launching a new restaurant line, Jay is someone who does things first, better, bigger.”
