Digital editions of comic books from DC Comics and Vertigo are now available from Amazon’s Kindle Store, Apple’s iBookstore and Barnes & Noble’s Nook Store, ensuring that they are easily obtainable by virtually anyone with any color ereader or tablet.
Jim Lee, co-publisher, DC Entertainment, said this makes DC Comics the only comic book publisher to distribute across all three market-leading ebookstores.
A good selection of DC Entertainment’s most popular periodical titles are included – including Justice League, Batman, Superman, Detective Comics, Action Comics, Batgirl, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, Fables and American Vampire – although they will be rolled out gradually.
DC Entertainment, a Warner Bros. Entertainment company, was the first comic publisher to put all of its periodicals for sale in print and digital on the same date, which Lee said has led to increased sales of both formats. The Los Angeles Times reports that DC’s digital comic book sales are up 197 percent and print comic book sales are up 12 percent compared with the same period in 2011.
“As e-readers and tablets continue to explode in popularity it’s important for us to offer consumers convenience and choice in how they download digital comics and graphic novels and these new distribution deals with the top three e-bookstores do just that,” said Lee.
