Fandango debuts original series slate with 'The Frontrunners,' one for Oscar watchers

Fandango today debuted its first original video series, indicating the company’s direction for growing from its roots as a movie ticket and information service, and promised that more series are in the works.

The show is called The Frontrunners, and it intends to be a source for news and commentary related to the Oscars. Host Dave Karger (pictured) will interview Academy Award-worthy talent like Hugh Jackman, Ben Affleck, Amy Adams, Richard Gere and Keira Knightley, in addition to providing his own predictions and opinions as Fandango’s chief correspondent.

Episodes of The Frontrunners can be found on the “Award Watch” section of Fandango’s site. The first episode is embedded below, too.

That section also provides opportunities for fans to share their own opinions about the contenders and the televised event, along with a printable Oscars ballot, related videos and photos, a historical archive and other reasons for film aficionados to visit and linger.

Naturally, fans also will be invited to purchase tickets for viewing the relevant films at their local movie theater.

Paul Yanover, president of Fandango: “The Frontrunners video series is a great example of our commitment to creating high quality entertainment content for Fandango, further enhancing the moviegoing experience for fans everywhere. I’m excited that Dave Karger will be hosting our first show and know that our audiences will enjoy Dave’s expert insight and fresh take on this year’s hottest movies.”

Dave Karger, chief correspondent for Fandango: “Since I was a little kid I have been fascinated by the Oscars, so to develop an entire series about Hollywood’s awards season has been a dream come true. I hope that The Frontrunners gives Fandango’s movie fans an insider’s look at what inspires the incredibly talented performers and filmmakers who are at the center of the conversation.”
