Samsung and Apple Winning the Battle for the Smartphone Market

Competition in the mobile market intensified dramatically in 2012 with Samsung and Apple growing their respective market share at the expense of other device manufacturers. During a three-month period ending in November, comScore reported that Samsung increased its lead in the U.S. smartphone market by 1.2 percentage points for a controlling 26.9% share, while Apple grew its smartphone market share from 17.1% to 18.5%, gaining 1.4 points following the launch of the iPhone 5.
