Akamai to Acquire Prolexic for $370 Million

Akamai, the Cambridge-based provider of web optimization and security technology, announced on Monday it will acquire Prolexic, a Florida-based provider of security technology for protecting data centers and IP applications from distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks. Under the agreement, Akamai will acquire Prolexic for a net cash payment of about $370 million.

Under the agreement, Akamai will acquire Prolexic for a net cash payment of about $370 million. Founded in 2003, Prolexic restores Internet services for enterprises and government agencies “within minutes” of a DDoS attack, according to the company. Its customers include some of the world’s largest banks and companies in e-commerce, SaaS, payment processing, travel/hospitality, gaming, energy and other “at-risk” industries. Read more
