o Secret Service, RIAA Bust New York City CD Piracy Operation
New York -- The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) announced
that the U.S. Secret Service, working with its investigators, have busted
a CD piracy ring in New York City that had the capability of churning out
6 million pirated discs per year. During the raid, three people were
arrested and authorities seized 35,000 pirated CDs, 10,000 DVDs, 421 CD
burners, a color copier and other tools for creating pirate CDs. The RIAA
said the raid represents the largest-ever seizure of music piracy
equipment in the U.S., and estimated the operation had the potential to
cost the recording industry $90 million annually. "This is a major blow to
the music pirates who were robbing record companies, artists, legitimate
retailers and countless others in the industry of millions of hard-earned
dollars," said Frank Creighton, executive vice president and director of
the RIAA's Anti-Piracy Unit.

New York -- Personal video recorder manufacturer TiVo announced that its

pictures stored on PCs on the television to which the TiVo unit is
attached. The new service -- which will be launched at the Consumer
Electronics Show in Las Vegas in January -- will likely be offered for an
additional monthly fee, although the company did not comment on pricing.
"There's a whole set of packages that we are doing and the main theme is

o Interactive Advertising Bureau Endorses Larger Online Ad Size
New York -- The Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB) announced that its ad
sizes committee, which includes AOL, CNET Networks, MSN and Yahoo, have
approved the recommendation of a new larger-sized advertising format.
Combined with three previously-endorsed sizes, the set will make up what
the IAB calls its "Universal Ad Package." The IAB said the grouping was
created in response to advertiser demand for simpler, more cost effective
units and a stronger creative palette. The publishers on the special ad
committee all said they will begin offering the new 728x90 format to
advertisers buying ads on their sites.
