San Francisco – The Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF), a
digital civil liberties group, has put out a call for U.S.-licensed attorneys
to help it defend the targets of an expected 50,000 lawsuits related to movie
downloading. A group of independent film producers, as well as the producers of
Oscar-winning "The Hurt Locker," have hired U.S. Copyright Group to
sue and seek monetary settlements from people who are suspected to have
downloaded the films via BitTorrent. The EFF is seeking attorneys to advise the
targets of these lawsuits, and potentially file motions to quash subpoenas
seeking their identities from their Internet service providers.
