Cupertino, Calif. – Mark Papermaster, Apple’s (NASD: AAPL) top mobile
executive who was hired away from IBM in 2008, has left the company in the wake
of the antenna issues with the company’s recently released iPhone 4, The New
York Times reported on Saturday.

Papermaster declined to comment, and when
asked by The Times, Apple would not say whether he was fired or left on his
own.

A source tells The Times, however, that Papermaster was "pushed out
over a series of hardware problems, including some related to the iPod
touch."

Papermaster’s responsibilities at Apple will be taken over by Bob
Mansfield, the company’s senior vice president for Macintosh hardware
engineering.
