Los Angeles – French video game publisher Ubisoft is
launching a film and television production unit, with an eye toward adapting
its own game titles for the small and big screens, Variety reports.

Ubisoft’s "Prince
of Persia: The Sands of Time" was adapted into a movie that grossed $335
million worldwide; other titles the firm has published include "Assassin’s
Creed" and "Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell."

Ubisoft Motion Pictures will
be led by Jean-Julien Baronnet, former head of director Luc Besson’s
EuropaCorp. Heading marketing and international sales will be Jean de Rivieres,
the former head of distribution at Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures France.
