San Francisco – Confirming earlier media reports, Twitter said on Thursday that it will launch its own photo uploading and sharing service, with images to be hosted by Photobucket.

The move will likely have a negative effect on existing third-party Twitter images services like Twitpic and Yfrog, as users will in coming weeks be able to upload a photo and attach it to tweets directly from Twitter.com and the company’s mobile applications.

Twitter also on Thursday introduced what it says is a “completely new version” of Twitter search, which will personalize results to deliver more relevant tweets, related photos and videos.
