Cupertino, Calif. – Apple (NASD: AAPL) has filed patent claims against
Korea’s Samsung, alleging the company’s Galaxy line of smartphones and tablet
computers infringe on its iPhone and iPad, All Things D reports.

"It’s no
coincidence that Samsung’s latest products look a lot like the iPhone and iPad,
from the shape of the hardware to the user interface and even the
packaging," an Apple spokesperson told All Things D.

"This kind of
blatant copying is wrong, and we need to protect Apple’s intellectual property when
companies steal our ideas."

Apple is seeking an injunction against
distribution of Samsung’s Galaxy products, in addition to unspecified damages,
and a finding that Samsung "willfully" infringed its patents, which
can bring heftier penalties.
