Clark G, the talking dog known to everyone who’s ever used YouTube, stepped in front of the camera again with a reminder that nominations for the American Humane Association Hero Dog Awards close in less than a week. (See video, below.) A rescue dog himself, Clark G is the official spokesdog for the 2012 national campaign.

The Hero Dog Awards recognize “ordinary dogs who do extraordinary things.” Videos of some heroic dogs are viewable on the event’s YouTube page, while additional media is on its official website.

The awards are presented by the Lois Pope LIFE Foundation and will be broadcast nationwide on Hallmark Channel, produced by MRB Productions. Members of the public are invited to vote beginning April 1, choosing their favorite from finalists in eight categories.

“We work to elevate the status of animals in society, in our homes, and in our families by recognizing the important role they play in our lives every day,” said Robin Ganzert, president and CEO for the American Humane Association. “Clark G’s devotion to his family – who he loves even more than bacon – demonstrates that powerful bond between people and animals that we embrace and recognize through the Hero Dog Awards.”

This year’s judges include Whoopi Goldberg, Candy Spelling, CBS’ Debbye Turner Bell, Dr. Marty Becker, Kristin Bauer Van Straten, Megyn Price, Edie McClurg, and Christie Brooke, Prince Lorenzo Borghese and others.

Clark G’s breakthrough video Ultimate Dog Tease, which has been viewed more than 140 million times, is the work of Canadian voiceover artist Andrew Grantham.
