Starting today, fans can preorder “O’Reilly vs Stewart 2012: The Rumble in the Air-Conditioned Auditorium, ” digital access to a live event starring Jon Stewart and Bill O’Reilly on October 6.

Streamcasting and other digital access, available at $4.95, is a source of revenue in addition sales of tickets to be in the audience at the George Washington University venue. Half of the net profits will be donated to charities chosen by Stewart and O’Reilly.

Billed as a debate, the host of Comedy Central’s The Daily Show with Jon Stewart will square off against the host of Fox News’ The O’Reilly Factor as they verbally spar to determine “the best direction for America.”

All digital aspects of the event are being handled by Nox Solutions. Purchasing the digital version gives consumers access to the live stream and to the archived version, regardless of their geographical location. Buyers also can download their choice of the event’s video, audio or both. The downloadable video files will be H.264 encoded in an MP4 container, while audio files will be MP3s.

The media files will not have digital media rights protection (DRM) and can be kept in any format the consumer prefers, but the site reminds consumers that some of the proceeds will help charities and adds, “We kindly ask that you do not redistribute or share.”
