zynganewZynga, the financially struggling publisher of social games such as Words With Friends and FarmVille, said it plans to shutter its OMGPOP social games site “to make way for new and exciting gaming opportunities.” The company acquired New York-based OMGPOP, maker of the popular mobile game Draw Something, for $210 million last spring. The site will close on Sept. 30, though Zynga said that visitors will be able to continue playing games such as Draw Something, Draw Something 2 and Draw My Thing. “We regret that this decision will affect some of our players, but we invite you to visit Zynga.com and try some of our other games,” wrote Zynga on its website.
