Clear Channel's iHeartRadio Plans to Clobber Pandora, Spotify

The reinvented iHeartRadio is now available in beta, open only to those who have “liked” its parent Clear Channel Radio on Facebook. The free service combines more than 800 live, professional radio stations with stations that are custom created on the fly to suit each listener. Pandora, Spotify and other custom music should keep on their toes.

As if women on TV didn’t already involve enough augmented reality, a new promotional campaign from NBC and Bloomingdale’s uses GoldRun V2 to enable anyone and everyone to have their picture taken with stars from 'The Playboy Club' and other programs from NBC’s fall season lineup including 'Whitney,' 'Free Agents,' 'Prime Suspect' and 'Up All Night.'

Row 44 Makes It More Difficult to Escape Gleeks

In-flight broadband entertainment platform Row 44 has added movies and TV shows from Disney, Universal, Twentieth Century Fox and Warner Bros. to the library of content passengers can watch on their own Wi-Fi devices. Among the new additions are episodes of “Friends,” “Glee,” “The Office” and “Modern Family,” and movies such as “Avatar,” “Harry Potter,” “Inception” and “Toy Story.”

RIM Agrees to Pay for License, So Dolby Ends Lawsuit

As if BlackBerry didn't have enough to deal with at the moment, Dolby Laboratories announced that Research in Motion agreed to license Dolby’s advanced audio technologies and to pay patent royalties, resulting in the dismissal of two lawsuits recently filed by Dolby against RIM. Financial terms were not disclosed, but Dolby has informed analysts it expected $15 million in back royalties – plus interest – from RIM in the fiscal fourth quarter.

Broadcom Acquires NetLogic for $3.7 Billion

Broadcom Corp. today announced a definitive merger agreement with NetLogic Microsystems. The deal, which is valued at $3.7 billion, gives the two communications semiconductor leaders a stronger position for moving into wireless and other advanced infrastructures. NetLogic Microsystems shareholders will receive $50 per share, a price that is over 50 percent more than the price for NetLogic shares at close of trading Friday.

Scripps Mobile-izes Local TV

Following a deal to use EndPlay Inc. technology, the E.W. Scripps Co. is enabling stations in all nine of its television markets to deliver live video programming to virtually any mobile device beginning this month.

Girl Talk Fans Gamify Music

One of the most controversial artists working in music today, Girl Talk, is inspiring fans to build digital expressions of what they hear. Pittsburgh native Gregg Gillis bases his work as Girl Talk on mashing together hundreds of samples lifted from other artists’ recordings into something new from what they were before. Some of his fans then go a step beyond listening, and they enjoy the gamification of dissecting Girl Talk’s albums into their component parts. Mashup Breakdown, a new project by Benjamin Rahn, was born from wanting to turn this impulse into a kinetic experience.

Tapjoy Taps Sony's Peter Dille

Independent mobile advertising network Tapjoy Inc. announced that Peter Dille has joined the company as chief marketing officer. It’s the latest expansion move from a company that also just hired Al Wood as chief financial officer and Larry Berkin as vice president and general manager, Asia-Pacific. Dille left his position as SCEA's senior VP of marketing and PlayStation Network in March.

Google Ventures Finds a Friend in Echoecho

Google Ventures, the investment arm of Mountain View-based Google, said it has invested in Los Angeles-based Echoecho, developer of a location-based mobile app for finding friends. The investment was part of a $750,000 seed round that also included participation from U.K.-based venture firm PROfounders Capital.
