Official.fm Adds Execs, Opens U.S. Offices

Official.fm, the online music management platform for professionals and prosumers, has expanded its operations to the United States. It opened an office on each coast and brought on Lucas Gonze as chief technology officer, Jason Herskowitz as chief product officer, and Chuck Fishman as partnership relations director.

Will Rhapsody's Purchase Kill Off Napster?

Napster has entered a new chapter in its storied life. In news that will cause flashbacks for digital media veterans, Rhapsody has signed an agreement to acquire Napster subscribers and certain other assets, in exchange for which Napster’s parent Best Buy will receive a minority stake in Rhapsody. Further details were not disclosed for the transaction, which is expected to close around the end of November.

Sun Records Sees the Light with Grooveshark

Grooveshark will become the first music streaming service to offer recordings from the world-famous Sun Records, the indie label with some justifiction for its slogan, “Where rock & roll was born.” Among the artists with music included in the deal are Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins and Roy Orbison.
