Social Wagering Service Betable Raises $3 Million

London – Betable, an online wagering service that lets users
create their own bets, has raised $3 million in first round funding led by
Atomico, the venture capital firm launched by Skype and Kazaa creators Niklas
Zennstrom and Janus Friis, PaidContent reported.

London-based Betable currently
only accepts wagers in the U.K.; U.S. law currently prohibits most forms of
online gambling.

The service rewards creators of bets with 30% of the money that
people wager on their creations, which the company collects upfront.

SeatGeek Lands $1 Million for Predictive Ticket Pricing

New York – SeatGeek, the provider of a predictive pricing
service for sports and concert tickets, has raised $1 million in its first
round of financing, led by Founder Collective.

NYC Seed also participated in
the investment round, proceeds from which will be used to build out the
company’s engineering and business development teams.

Founded in 2009 after
being incubated at DreamIt Ventures in Philadelphia, New York-based SeatGeek
has built a database of millions of historical ticket transactions, and uses an
algorithm to crunch this data and spit out price forecasts.

For baseball
tickets, the company says, it also considers variables like a team’s record,
the weather, venue, and even the pitchers scheduled to play.

Netflix: Subscribers Up 42% in Q2; 61% Used Instant Streaming

Los Gatos, Calif. – Online DVD rental service Netflix (NASD: NFLX) on
Wednesday reported a 42% rise in subscribers during the second quarter, to 15
million. The company also said that 61% of its subscribers used the company’s
Instant Streaming feature to stream TV episodes or movies to a computer or TV
set in the second quarter, up from 37% a year ago and 55% in the first quarter.

Admins of U.K. BitTorrent Site Filesoup Face Copyright Charges

Los Angeles – Two administrators of veteran U.K.-based
BitTorrent file-sharing site Filesoup have been charged with conspiracy to
infringe copyright, TorrentFreak reports.  
Local authorities, along with the Motion Picture Association of
America-funded Federation Against Copyright Theft (FACT), conducted raids on
the site’s operations in 2009, arresting the two admins in the process. The
admins are reportedly out on bail, but must surrender to custody in early

Blinkx Releases Mobile Video Index API for Developers

Wednesday released a new API that gives developers of mobile applications and
sites access to the company’s index of MP4 video. The mobile video index
includes millions of videos from Blinkx’s network of content partners,

Streaming Radio Service Pandora Hits 60 Million Users

New York – Streaming music service Pandora now counts 60
million registered users, president and CEO Joe Kennedy said at the New Music
Seminar on Wednesday. The company reported reaching 50 million users in April,
and 40 million in December. "Pandora plays the music of tens of thousands
of artists every day. It’s a very promising sign for the industry that music
fans are so quickly embracing this new form of radio," Joe Kennedy.

Mobile Location Service Foursquare Passes 100 Million Check-ins

has topped 100 million check-ins by its users, Mashable reported, citing a
tweet from Foursquare business development head Tristan Walker. The company
reported passing 40 million check-ins two months ago, and now sees users
sharing nearly 1 million check-ins daily.

Live Streaming NBA Games Coming to iPad This Fall

Los Angeles – The NBA plans to bring its live streaming
games to Apple’s iPad this fall, PaidContent reported. "We anticipate
we’ll have our live streaming games available on iPad in the fall," said NBA
Digital senior vice president and general manager Bryan Perez. "This
(mobile growth) is happening so quickly, we needed to test as many business models
and pricepoints as possible — free app, paid app, team app — every single
team across three platforms (iPhone, Android, Blackberry)."
