San Francisco
– Fred von Lohmann, senior staff attorney for digital civil liberties group the
Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF), has stepped down to take a position at
Google (NASD: GOOG) as senior copyright counsel, CNET News.com reported.
In addition to
helping drive the EFF’s various efforts, von Lohmann was also one of the lead
attorneys for Grokster in the landmark file-sharing case decided by the U.S.
Supreme Court.
The attorney has over the years provided legal advice to digital
media firms including YouTube, Veoh, TorrentSpy, LimeWire, Isohunt and
RealNetworks.
Before joining the EFF, von Lohmann was a visiting researcher
with the Berkeley
Center for Law and
Technology, and an associate with the law firm Morrison & Foerster.
