Los Angeles – Specific Media, operator of the largest
independent online ad network, has become the latest firm to face a federal
lawsuit over the practice of "re-spawning" cookies that track users’
Web surfing after users have deleted them, Ars Technica reported.
Similar
lawsuits have recently targeted ad technology firms Quantcast and Clearspring
Technologies — as well as big-name customers of their services, including MTV
and Disney.
The suit against Specific Media, which is seeking class action
status and $5 million in damages, alleges violation of federal privacy and
computer security laws.
