There are over 250 game projects seeking funding on Kickstarter at the moment, but only one of them features George A. Romero. ACW Games convinced the Godfather of all Zombies to voice the lead villain in Zombie Squash, then turned to crowdfunding in order to meet its plan to release the game for Halloween.
Romero is best known as the filmmaker of what’s known as the Dead Pentalogy, the seminal series of zombie movies that includes Night of the Living Dead (1968) and Dawn of the Dead (1978). This new project is not his first game involvement, however – he appears in the “Call of the Dead” zombie map in Call of Duty: Black Ops as a non-playable character.
Zombie Squash is a tower defense-type game set in a world where gourds have been turned into flesh-eating hordes by evil experiments gone wrong. The game’s name doesn’t refer to squishing zombies, in other words – the squash are the zombies.
ACW Games’ owner Attila Juhasz created Zombie Squash. The rest of the team includes musician/producer Roy Z and illustrator/designer Marc Sasso.
