San Francisco – Social games publisher Zynga announced on
Thursday that it has formed a joint venture with Japan’s Softbank to accelerate
development of the social game industry in Asia.
The companies also confirmed
that Softbank has completed a $150 million investment in San Francisco-based
Zynga, whose game titles include "FarmVille" and "Mafia Wars."
Tokyo-based Zynga Japan will "tap into Japan’s rich history of gaming and
leverage Softbank’s cutting edge mobile and Web technology to produce the best
social games in the market," the company said.
