Los Angeles – IAC (NASD: IACI) announced on Friday that it will shutter
Bloglines, an RSS news reader service it acquired in 2005.

"RSS is a means
to an end, not a consumer experience in and of itself," Ask.com president
Doug Leeds wrote on the company’s blog.

"As a result, RSS aggregator usage
has slowed significantly, and Bloglines isn’t the only service to feel the
impact."

PaidContent also noted reports that Ask.com put Bloglines up for
sale unsuccessfully a couple of years ago.

The company is giving users three
weeks to export their existing Bloglines feds to another service.

  1. this sucks! i don’t know what rss aggregator to use now. i prefer an online one like bloglines so i can catch up on my feeds no matter which computer i’m at. i like google as a search engine, but i refuse to use any of their other services.
