New York
– Foursquare, the location-based social network, this week surpassed one
million users after just over a year in service amid reports the company is in
talks with Microsoft, Facebook and Yahoo, TechCrunch reported.
Sources told
TechCrunch that Facebook has discussed a range of options with Foursquare, but
"seems to have cooled on the idea of an outright acquisition," while
Microsoft "is likely still thinking about buying the company."
Previous reports had indicated that Yahoo offered upwards of $100 million to
acquire the company, which last raised funding in August at a $6 million
valuation.
Foursquare co-founder and CEO Dennis Crowley sold his previous
start-up, Dodgeball, to Google.
