Cupertino,
Calif. – Apple (NASD: AAPL) announced on
Tuesday that sales of its iPad have now surpassed 3 million units, 80 days
after its release in the U.S. The company added that developers have created
over 11,000 new iPad apps.
"People are loving iPad as it becomes a part of
their daily lives," said Apple CEO Steve Jobs.
"We’re working hard to
get this magical product into the hands of even more people around the world,
including those in nine more countries next month."
Apple said it took
just 28 days to sell its first million iPads, while the two million sales mark was reached at the beginning of June.
