Los Angeles – News Corp.’s (NYSE: NWS) MySpace online social network will
acquire certain assets of Threadbox, the developer of a social messaging
platform, VentureBeat reported.

Under the deal, MySpace is reportedly acquiring
some of Threadbox’s technology, and certain of its team members will join the
company.

Launched in 2009, Threadbox offers a social messaging platform that
combines elements of email, instant messaging and file-sharing — similar to
Google’s Wave.

"We plan to apply our technology there in a variety of
ways! Those of you that were using Threadbox socially may even find what we are
building at Myspace interesting!" CEO Michael Cerda wrote in a blog post.

Threadbox
had raised $2 million in funding, from backers including Venrock, Hillsven
Capital and Seraph Group.
