San Francisco – Twitter plans to begin logging all of the
links clicked through from its microblogging service via its t.co URL
shortening service.

The data recorded will include both links shared on
Twitter.com, and those posted via third-party Twitter applications.

CNET
News.com notes that Yahoo, Microsoft and Facebook appear to track links on
their websites.

The move will allow Twitter to refine its recommendations, and
detect links to malicious sites.

It’s not clear whether Twitter will provide
users with a means of opting-out of having all of the links they share on
Twitter tracked by the company.
