San Mateo, Calif. – CafePress, a service that allows people
to create and sell custom t-shirts, mugs, posters and other unique gifts, said
on Thursday it has acquired North Carolina-based Canvas On Demand, an online
service for creating personalized custom canvases from photographs.
Financial
terms of the deal — which also includes sister companies Canvas On Demand Pro
and Great Big Canvas — were not disclosed.
CafePress said the acquisition
complements its 2008 deal for Imagekind, an online art community where artists
sell their art on a range of canvases and frames.
Canvas On Demand’s co-owners
and co-founders, Joe Schmidt and Tom Lotrecchiano, will become general managers
for all of CafePress’ art business, overseeing management of Canvas on Demand
and Imagekind.
Canvas On Demand operations will remain in Raleigh, N.C.
