San Bruno, Calif. – YouTube (NASD:  GOOG) CEO Chad Hurley has announced
that he will step down from the position, and become and advisor within the
company. "For the past two years, I’ve taken on more of an advisory role
at YouTube as Salar Kamangar has led the company’s day-to-day operations. I
will continue to serve in an advisory capacity and am excited to witness the
next phase of YouTube’s growth," Hurley said.

Hurley, who co-founded the
site with fellow ex-PayPal alums Steve Chen and Jawed Karim in 2005, made the
announcement at a technology conference in Dublin last night.

Google would
acquire the company for around $1.65 billion in 2006.

The news comes as YouTube
announced that its video channels now count a collective more than 1 billion subscriptions
from YouTube users, and that it has now served 500 million views via its
Promoted Videos advertising feature, which launched less than two years ago.
