Washignton – Following a report in The New York Times that a
merged Newsweek-The Daily Beast will close down the Newsweek.com website,
staffers of the site are pushing back.

The New York Times reported that the top
executive of the joint venture, Stephen Colvin, said the Newsweek.com site will
no longer exist after the merger between the two publications is complete.

The
article said all traffic to Newsweek.com will be forwarded to TheDailyBeast.com.

"It’s always nice to wake up and find out in the Times that your job is
doomed," wrote one Newsweek.com staffer on a new website called "Save
Newsweek.com," created on Tumblr.

"Newsweek.com may have always
remained an ugly stepchild to its print grandparents, who were too busy burning
money to notice. But it was a team who — despite top-level management turmoil
that resulted in a whopping seven editors over the past four years."

The
merger comes just months after Sidney Harman acquired Newsweek from The
Washington Post Company for $1 plus the assumption of debt.
