Framingham, Mass. – Worldwide mobile users are expected to
download a total of 10.9 billion mobile applications this year, a number
projected to grow to 76.9 billion by 2014, when revenues from mobile apps are
expected to surpass $35 billion, according to a report from IDC.
The firm notes
that developers have churned out more than 300,000 mobile applications in the
just over three years since they were first introduced.
"Mobile app
developers will ‘appify’ just about every interaction you can think of in your
physical and digital worlds," said IDC vice president Scott Ellison.
"The extension of mobile apps to every aspect of our personal and business
lives will be one of the hallmarks of the new decade with enormous
opportunities for virtually every business sector."
