New York – Reality TV music juggernaut "American
Idol" has announced that viewers will now be able to vote for their
favorite singers via Facebook.
The Facebook-enabled voting will take place on
AmericanIdol.com, with viewers able to vote up to 50 times via Facebook, aside
from existing telephone and text-message voting options.
"We have been wanting to do online voting for several years, and
now Facebook has offered us a secure solution and we are ready to go,"
said series creator Simon Fuller.
"The show has always involved a high
level of engagement with its viewers through texting and phone voting, and it’s
great to expand on this tradition."
Facebook voting is expected to launch
with the March 1 episode of "American Idol."
