Cupertino, Calif. – Riding on the phenomenal success of
products such as the iPhone and iPad, Apple (NASD: AAPL) has surpassed Google (NASD: GOOG) as the world’s
most valuable brand, according to BrandZ’s newly released Top 100 Most Valuable
Global Brands report.
The rankings, which rate the values of customer-facing
brands — not companies — take into consideration data obtained through more
than 2 million consumer interviews, as well as publicly available financial
information.
Google had topped the poll for each of the past four years.
Apple’s brand value grew 84% from a year ago to $153.3 billion surpassing
Google, which fell 2% to $111.5 billion.
IBM, McDonald’s and Microsoft round
out the top five. Facebook (No. 35) posted the fastest rise of any brand in the
poll, with a 246% surge in value.
