Los Angeles – Authorities in four European countries have acted in concert to conduct raids on the operators of Kino.to, a site that indexes where movies are hosted on third-party streaming sites, TorrentFreak reports.
The raids in Germany, Spain, France and the Netherlands resulted in the arrests of more than a dozen individuals, and the site — which counts 4 million daily visitors — being taken offline.
Some 250 officers reportedly assisted in the raids conducted just in Germany, where those arrested are being charged with “involvement in a criminal organization with the purpose of committing professional copyright infringement.”
German authorities allege that Kino.to worked in concert with the third-party sites hosting the unauthorized copyrighted movies, and was making “millions” in profits.
