Beijing — Warner Bros. Entertainment announced Wednesday that the studio has licensed its films for inclusion on the first national video-on-demand platform in China.
The distribution agreement between Warner’s joint venture in China, and China’s YOU On Demand, will allow Chinese consumers to access Warner Bros.’ new film releases, beginning this summer.
“China is developing methods for consumers to view movies outside the cinema in a legitimate fashion,” said Jim Wuthrich, president of international home video and digital distribution at Warner Bros. Home Entertainment Group.
YOU On Demand’s platform will provide an estimated 200 million cable households with access to the studio’s films. The company also anticipates their service extending to nearly three million cable TV homes in China by the end of this summer.
