New York – AOL on Wednesday launched a new app, called AOL HD, that will deliver high-definition video to users of connected TV platforms such as Boxee, Roku and Yahoo Connected TV.
Users of the app will be able to stream the company’s video and audio content directly to their TV sets. The free service will feature three main channels of content – entertainment, technology and home.
“There has been explosive growth in the number of users who watch and interact with internet content on their televisions,” said Rob DelaCruz, the general manager of AOL HD. “We’re uniquely positioned to serve this audience.”
The app, available for download from each platform’s app library, will initially reach an installed user base of over 10 million users. The company plans to expand the service to other platforms in the coming months.
