Is it time to get rid of the Christmas tree? Instead of dragging it to the recycling center, why not blow it up? Bad Robot Interactive, a division of J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot, makes it possible with its first iOS app, Action Movie FX.
The app lets users shoot a video and define the most impressive timing. Then, just like sending a scene to post, the app magically adds the selected weapon of vast destruction to the video, complete with music, lens flares, and realistic sound effects by Lucasfilm’s Skywalker Sound.
Two special effects come with the free app: Missle Attack and Car Smash, both of which wreak havoc while promoting Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol. The latest in the blockbuster franchise was directed by Brad Bird and produced by J.J. Abrams and Tom Cruise, so it all makes total sense while it creates fun and generates revenue.
Extra effects can be purchased for $.99 in packs of two. Available packs so far are Chopper Down & Tornado Action or Airstrike & Fire Fight, with the promise of more to come.
