Fans.tv, a social television experience company, has come out of the business-to-business toolshed with a consumer product that enables viewers to create playlists and engage with other viewers.
Using the service’s Playlist feature, fans can share what they are planning to watch, make recommendations, explore recommendations made for them, and invite other users and friends to join in. They also can check in to any show on television, unlock virtual rewards, and share comments and activities across Facebook and Twitter.
Fans.tv’s broadcast and studio partners include The CW network, for which it powers thebachelor.tv, the online extension of its unscripted hit The Bachelor.
So far Fans.tv is in beta and available only on its website. Andrew Cuccurullo, founder and CEO of Fans.tv, said it will launch an HTML5 app, iPhone, Android and iPad applications in the next few months and also will release an API for developers.
“Fans.tv moves social television beyond the check-in,” said Cuccurullo. “We’re making it easier to interact with like-minded viewers, and providing new tools for sharing, such as our Social TV Playlist feature that enables a person to share their personal TV schedule with friends and other viewers.”
