NaturalMotion Games has secured $11 million in Series B funding from Benchmark Capital, whose general partner Mitch Lasky now joins NaturalMotion’s board of directors.
The investment will be used to open an office in San Francisco for the Oxford, England-based company, which will be its U.S. headquarters and give it access to hiring from that pool of talent.
NaturalMotion also will further develop its proprietary realistic animation technology. This can be seen in NaturalMotion’s best-selling mobile game My Horse, which has been downloaded more than 10 million times, but it debuted in Rockstar Games’ Grand Theft Auto IV.
Torsten Reil, CEO of NaturalMotion, said this level of quality is important for more deeply engaging users in his games, which can be played in short bursts while they reward long-term progression.
“We believe that users want rich, believable experiences on their mobile phones and tablets,” said Torsten Reil, CEO of NaturalMotion. “Just like animated movies have moved from Snow White to Toy Story, mobile games are moving from 2D farming games to high-quality 3D experiences.”
