Four U.S. Air Force Airmen and four professional Formula Drift drivers are testing their skills against each other in Drift into the Blue, a five-episode web series produced by Ubiquity Corp. In addition to pride, honor and general bragging rights, the winner gets a flight in an F-16 fighter jet.
Ubiquity is the official broadcast partner of Formula Drift. Chris Carmichael, CEO of Ubiquity, said viewers will experience the immediacy and excitement of being in the cars as they race. “United States Air Force and Formula Drift have a lot in common in doing what they do: technology, teamwork and a great deal of speed,” he said.
Ryan Sage, co-founder and vice president of Formula Drift, said “We are really ecstatic to be involved in this project with USAF and Ubiquity. The project, Drift into the Blue, showcases two of our most integral partners and the result is a huge life experience for an airman and a Formula Drift driver. How can you go wrong with that?”
The participating USAF airmen are Tech Sgt. Brian Abel, Staff Sgt. Natasha Burroughs, Staff Sgt. Steven Dauck and Sr. Airman Semmi Quarles. Representing Formula Drift are professional FD drivers Ryan Tureck, Aurimus “Odi” Bakchis (pictured), Joon Maeng and Tony Angelo. (Watch the first episode of Into the Blue below.)
Each year the U.S. Air Force has to fill more than 9,000 jobs suitable for someone mechanically inclined, and its Formula Drift sponsorship is one way that it reaches out to likely recruits. Formula Drift is a high-powered competitive motor sport where drivers intentionally maneuver their cars into controlled sideways slides at high speeds through a marked course, with judging based on execution and style.
“Formula Drift will continue to be a valuable partner for the Air Force in showcasing some of the many careers the Air Force has to offer young Americans interested in speed, power, precision and teamwork. This was a great experience for all involved and we hope the Drift fans enjoy the show while learning more about what the Air Force does every day,” said Devin M. Washington, Major, USAF Chief, Air Force National Events Branch Headquarters Air Force Recruiting Service.
