London – Prince has told the U.K. newspaper The Mirror that
"The Internet’s completely over," and intends to forgo downloads
entirely for his forthcoming record, instead distributing it in CD format in
copies of the Mirror. "I don’t see why I should give my new music to
iTunes or anyone else. They won’t pay me an advance for it and then they get
angry when they can’t get it," Prince told the Mirror.
"The internet’s
like MTV. At one time MTV was hip and suddenly it became outdated. Anyway, all
these computers and digital gadgets are no good. They just fill your head with
numbers and that can’t be good for you."
The artist has been notoriously
guarded with regard to his copyrights online, several years ago demanding that
his own fan sites remove photos of him, and later threatening to sue sites
including YouTube and eBay.

In some ways but going about it the wrong way. I just read this article and it makes a lot of sense on how to market music more effectively on the web:

“The Internet is over… NEWSPAPERS are where it’s at now!”
Whether Prince is right or wrong, one must acquiesce in the fact that his ability to operate from without the conceptual box, free from the constraints of industry dogmatism and at times, perhaps reason, is what has kept his career alive..
