Seattle – Amazon.com (NASD: AMZN) has launched a new rolling promotion
that will see MP3 singles priced at just 69 cents, at launch offering some 200
songs at the new price point, the Associated Press reported.
The current
industry standard song pricing ranges from 99 cents to $1.29 per song.
AP noted
that Amazon’s dedicated Web page created for the new promotion includes 26 of
the current top 40 songs.
"It’ll give a [sales] boost that lasts into the
future," Craig Page, the director of Amazon Music, told AP.
Amazon also
hopes the discounted songs will help spur interest in its new Cloud Drive
online locker service.
