Cupertino, Calif. – Apple (NASD: AAPL) on Wednesday released an iPhone and
iPad software update designed to fix the "bug" the company said had
caused it to store location data.
Apple said the iOS 4.3.3 update reduces the
size of the cache of location data; no longer backs the cache up locally in a
user’s computer’s iTunes account; and deletes the cache entirely when a user
has opted to turn Location Services on the iPhone or iPad off.
Apple has said
that the location data was being used to improve location-based services,
including mapping, traffic and targeted advertising
