The TechAmerica Foundation today released recommendations from the Commission on the Leadership Opportunity in U.S. Deployment of the Cloud (CLOUD2), which are intended to guide the federal government regarding cloud computing technologies and related policies.

The CLOUD2 Commission was created to further the Cloud First Policy created by the President Obama’s administration. The Foundation is the non-profit, non-partisan affiliate of advocacy group TechAmerica.

It includes 14 recommendations that address four major considerations: trust – ensuring the cloud can meet security, privacy and availability needs; transnational data flows; transparency – providing meaningful and sharable criteria for evaluating cloud systems; and transformation – changing how the government acquires, deploys and provides training for cloud systems.

The Commission also believes the government should create incentives to encourage the global development and adoption of cloud technologies.

“Today’s recommendations by the commission will help further accelerate adoption of cloud computing within the government infrastructure”, said Michael Capellas, chairman and CEO, VCE and the Commission’s co-chair. “Faster adoption of cloud computing will strengthen the United States’ leadership position in the global marketplace and ignite creation of jobs that will be in high demand over the next decade.”
