Wooga came in top of two main categories at the 2011 European Games Awards, taking home both best European publisher and best social game with Diamond Dash in an evening ceremony on Aug. 13.
The Berlin-based company was vying for the honors with 69 companies from 17 countries. In 2010, wooga’s Bubble Island was named best social game with Ubisoft receiving best European publisher.
“The award is a major honour for wooga – just two years after our founding, we have been recognized as the best European publisher. We certainly didn’t expect this after established industry giants like EA, Ubisoft, Bigpoint and Gameforge were nominated,” said Jens Begemann, CEO of wooga. “We are very proud to have held our own against the international competition thanks to our focus as a provider of social games”
In additional news, wooga today released Magic Land on Facebook, a mix of role-playing, village building simulation and adventure features based on medieval legends that include dragons, pet unicorns and evil trolls. Also, Diamond Dash is about to be published for iPad and iPhone using Facebook Connect.
Wooga reports having 35 million monthly users, 70 percent of whom are women, for its social games.
